It’s August, that time of the year when everybody is packing for either short weekend trips to the beach or longer summer vacations.
I often wonder what it is that makes us approach packing and unpacking in such different ways, from the moment we start planning it (if you belong to the group that plans it) to the moment we come back home and open up our suitcases and deal with what’s in it. I've been on trips with girlfriends where each one packs in totally different ways for the same exact trip, some travelling with just a backpack and a small duffel bag while others with no less than two suitcases and a carry-on.
To me, packing is the only part of traveling that I dislike. It takes me so long to do it that I end up exhausted, both mentally and physically. I can’t deny that I’m getting better at it (thanks to Nikos who is a master at it), but I’m far from being great. For example, I make lists now so I don’t forget things at home anymore, but on the other hand, even though I bring one day outfit and one night outfit for each day of the trip, somehow I still bring with me stuff that I end up not wearing or using at all.
But then again I wonder, who is the best packer? The one who brings just two pair of shoes for a ten day vacation, or the one who brings enough so they never have to regret leaving that perfect pair at home?
It’s a tricky question, right? By the way, what kind of packer are you? Do you leave home with just a backpack and your camera or do you bring your whole closet on vacation with you?
