My last trip to Istanbul was in August. I went with my friend Vivian and even though it was a super short trip somehow we managed to do almost everything we had on our list.
Besides the breathtaking historical sites, its unique setting between Europe and Asia, and beautiful architecture, shopping in Istanbul is also a totally different experience. You can find stuff there that you can’t find anywhere else. I especially like to bring back home spices and Turkish towels (known as pestemals). Also the leather clothing and the carpets are fantastic, and the food and nightlife are amazing. So what's not to love about Istanbul!
These are some of my favorite spots:
JENNIFER’S HAMAM: They sell fantastic towels and they swear their towels will last you decades! Quality is superb and they never rush you (it takes me hours to decide because I want to buy everything!!) The textiles they sell are woven on old style looms and they use only natural and organic materials.
Spices and Turkish Delights from ALADDIN: by the main entrance of the Spice Market (to your right). They sell the best Turkish Delight, and also great quality spices. And as a bonus they speak every possible language, including English.
At the end of a long day of shopping and sightseeing there's nothing like a relaxing Turkish bath (hamam) followed by a massage. My favorite, AYASOFYA SULTAN HAMAMI, is in the heart of the Old Town. A unique experience.
And at night I like to go to ANGELIQUE: The outdoor terrace is the perfect setting for a drink overlooking the Bosphorus. Pure magic.
Magia pura.
